RE: Surprised by what’s lurking in “healthy” snacks?
I totally get what you mean - dried fruit is basically the enemy of braces and retainers. I tried eating some apricots once and spent ten minutes fishing bits out with a floss pick. Honestly, I just stick to plain almond...
RE: Brightening My Smile Without The Ouch - Is It Possible?
I get the skepticism with those LED kits - honestly, I thought they were just a gimmick too. But after my braces came off, I tried one of the dentist-prescribed whitening trays (with gel) and it actually made a differenc...
RE: Sealants for Kids: When Did Your Dentist Recommend Them?
I totally get where you’re coming from about the price - my jaw dropped the first time I saw the estimate for sealants on my kid. We ended up doing them because she’s got those super deep grooves, and honestly, she’s not...
RE: Thinking about jaw surgery - what did recovery really feel like?
Couldn’t agree more about the value of real stories - honestly, reading about the weird side effects and not just the “look at my new jaw!” posts made me feel normal. I had the numb lip/jaw thing for months and was convi...
RE: Feeling let down after dental implant surgery - anyone else?
That pressure thing you mentioned - I get what you mean, but honestly, I wouldn’t just brush it off as “normal” for everyone. When I had my implant, the weirdest part wasn’t the bite being off, but this sort of dull ache...
RE: How long did you wait for new dentures after extractions?
I totally get the speech thing - it took me months before I stopped sounding like I had a lisp, and honestly, some days it still slips out. My dentist wanted me to wait about 12 weeks, and even then, the fit kept changin...
RE: Making the switch: how I use my water flosser (and where I still mess up)
Honestly, I thought I was the only one with water basically everywhere except my teeth. The first time I used mine, I managed to spray the cat and the mirror at the same time... not my finest moment. But you’re right, th...
RE: The great dental quest: searching for planet-friendly floss
That’s exactly how I felt about silk floss, too. It looks all eco and nice, but I swear it just glides over plaque instead of actually picking anything up. I’ve got a couple of crowns and a retainer wire glued in, so I’m...
RE: If Your Braces Hurt Like Crazy At Night, What’s Your Go-To Fix?
I hear you on the wax situation - honestly, I always found even the silicone kind would slide off if I ate or drank anything. Instead, I started using those little orthodontic mouthguards at night. Not the prettiest look...
RE: The night before surgery: a choose-your-own-cleanliness adventure
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I actually don’t mind the hospital toothbrushes that much. Maybe it’s because I’ve had braces forever and learned to use whatever’s around. They’re flimsy, sure, but at least...
RE: Plastic or wire? Something weird I learned about retainers
I totally get the budget thing, but I’ve gotta say, my wire retainer has been way less hassle than the plastic ones ever were. I had two plastic ones crack and warp (left one in a hot car - bad move). The wire just sits ...
RE: Getting used to new dentures: slow and steady or all at once?
That really hits home. When I first got my partials, I was so determined to eat “like normal” that I ended up with sore gums and a ton of frustration. It took me a couple embarrassing lunches at work to finally accept th...
RE: How I keep track of my gum check-ups (and wonder if I'm doing it right)
This is so true. I swear, half the stress I used to feel at appointments was just not knowing what all those pokes and numbers meant. Once my ortho actually explained what he was checking for (and that the little “3-2-3”...
RE: Braces day jitters: did anyone else feel like a cyborg?
I totally get the gadget obsession. I went through a phase where I had to try every tool that promised “better hygiene” - even those weird little interdental brushes that look like bottle cleaners for mice. My partner st...
RE: Little tweaks for a straighter smile: what actually works?
That snap from the trays totally got me too - like, the first week I kept thinking I was breaking something. It’s wild how much noise they make for just a bit of plastic. I’ve found the “roll from the front” thing feels ...
