Braces in your 30s: did you know teeth can move for life?

My teeth started shifting in my late 20s, and I honestly thought retainers were just for teenagers. I used a boil-and-bite guard for a while too, but it made my jaw feel weird in the mornings. Have you noticed your bite feeling different over the years? I swear my old retainer barely fits anymore...

Yeah, my bite has definitely changed since my late 20s. I used to think retainers were just a “done with braces” thing, but turns out your teeth can keep shifting for years. Did you ever get checked for grinding? I tried a store-bought guard too and woke up with a sore jaw... Dentist said it wasn’t a great fit for me. Ever thought about getting a new retainer fitted?

That’s actually what happened to me! I thought any guard would help, but my jaw felt worse. My dentist mentioned how even small changes in alignment can mess with your bite over time. Getting a custom retainer made a difference, though—pricey, but less pain. It’s wild how teeth just don’t stay put.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen with the over-the-counter guards. They just never sat right, and I’d wake up with my jaw feeling kinda locked up or sore. My dentist actually showed me how even a tiny shift in how your teeth come together can mess up your bite and even give you headaches. I used to think retainers were just for after braces, but now I’m wearing one at night again in my 30s because my teeth started moving back. Not gonna lie, the price tag for a custom one stings, but it’s way better than dealing with jaw pain or having to redo orthodontic work. It’s wild how your teeth just keep shifting around even years later... sometimes I wonder if they ever really “settle.”

I totally get the pain of paying for a custom guard, but has anyone tried those online mail-order ones? I was skeptical, but mine actually fit way better than the drugstore kind—still not as perfect as the dentist’s, but less $$ and no more sore jaw. I wonder if it’s just luck, though. Anyone else have luck with cheaper options?
