Totally get where you’re coming from. I was tempted by the clear trays too, but honestly, I’d probably have left them on a restaurant napkin and never seen them again. Did you have much soreness at the start, or was it pretty manageable?

I totally relate to the fear of losing those clear trays—my friend left hers in a coffee shop and had to wait a week for a replacement. That would stress me out way more than metal brackets. As for soreness, I was actually surprised by how manageable it was. The first few days were rough, mostly just this dull ache, but nothing that couldn’t be handled with some ibuprofen and soft foods. I did notice that switching to new wires or tighter trays brought back the discomfort for a day or two, but it faded pretty quick.

One thing I found kind of interesting is how quickly you adapt. At first, I was hyper-aware of every little thing in my mouth, but after a couple weeks, it all just felt normal. The tech they use now is wild—my orthodontist showed me a 3D scan of my teeth shifting over time, which was super motivating. It’s definitely not painless, but for me, the soreness was more annoying than truly painful.

That 3D scan tech is wild, right? I remember seeing my own teeth shifting on the screen and actually feeling excited, which I never thought I’d say about orthodontics. The soreness was definitely more of a dull ache for me too, nothing like the horror stories I’d heard growing up. Still, the idea of misplacing those clear trays stresses me out every time I take them out for lunch at work. Did you find it tough to keep up with cleaning routines? I feel like I’m brushing and flossing way more than before, but it’s become second nature now.

Omg, SAME. I legit almost left mine on a napkin at Panera once... heart attack moment. The cleaning routine took a bit to get used to, but now it’s just part of my day. I keep a little kit in my bag for after meals—makes life way easier.

I keep worrying I’m gonna toss mine out by accident, especially when I’m out with friends and distracted. One time at a coffee shop, I legit spent ten minutes digging through my bag thinking I’d lost them, only to find them in my jacket pocket... total panic for no reason. The cleaning part is still weird for me, honestly. I always feel like people are watching when I pull out my little case and toothbrush in public. Does that ever get less awkward?
