I get what you mean about brighter colors looking better, but we actually stuck with gray for my son and it worked out fine. He’s not big on flashy colors and honestly, stains weren’t a huge issue for us—maybe just lucky? I was worried about having to pay for extra cleanings or replacements if he picked something that stained easily. Sometimes simple just feels easier on the wallet and less stressful overall... but I know every kid’s different.

I get where you’re coming from about gray being low-maintenance—definitely less pressure to keep things spotless. But I’ve actually seen that some of the brighter colors don’t stain as much as people expect, especially blues and dark greens. My niece went with navy bands after being worried about stains, and they held up really well (surprisingly better than the clear ones). Sometimes the “safe” choice isn’t always the easiest in the long run, but it really depends on the kid’s habits.

Gray was my first pick too, mostly because I figured it’d hide stains and not draw much attention. But after a couple adjustments, I actually switched to dark green out of curiosity, and honestly, it was way easier to keep looking clean than I expected. I drank coffee and ate pasta sauce without seeing much change—meanwhile, my friend had clear bands and they picked up every bit of curry or tea.

I think the “safe” colors really depend on what you eat and how often you brush. My ortho even mentioned that some dyes in foods react more with certain band materials, so it’s kind of a gamble. I get the appeal of gray, but if anyone’s stressing over stains, it might be worth trying a darker color just once. Blues and greens seem to be the least fussy from what I’ve seen. The only one I’d personally avoid again is yellow... big mistake for my teeth shade, looked way off in photos.

Yeah, yellow bands are a trap, honestly. Been there, regretted that—looked like my teeth were permanently stained in every selfie. I get what you mean about gray though, it’s supposed to be “safe,” but sometimes it just looks dull. Dark green’s a solid pick.

Couldn’t agree more. Navy blue was my go-to for months and barely showed anything. It’s kinda wild how much food can mess with clear or light colors.

I totally get the yellow band regret—been there, and every coffee made it worse. For me, maroon worked best. It hid stains and didn’t make my teeth look weird in photos. Lighter colors just never held up, especially after a bowl of curry...
