Are new white spots near the gumline early enamel damage?

My child is 6, and I’ve noticed small white or chalky-looking patches close to the gumline on two upper front teeth. They weren’t obvious before, but I can’t tell whether they’re new or just easier to see under certain light. They seem less noticeable after brushing, though they don’t disappear completely.

Could this pattern fit plaque buildup, early enamel demineralization, fluorosis, or simply normal variation? I’m not trying to diagnose it at home, but I’d like to know what details matter before calling the dentist. The spots are only near the gumline, with no pain or sensitivity that my child has mentioned.

We use fluoride toothpaste, although brushing isn’t always thorough, especially along the gumline. At the appointment, should I bring a clear photo taken before and after brushing, note when the patches first appeared, and list the toothpaste and recent dental treatments? What changes in color, texture, or size would make this more urgent?
