How I deal with a busted tooth until I can see the dentist

Honestly, chipping a tooth is the worst—I did it last year on a popcorn kernel and the pain was unreal. Here’s how I managed it step-by-step: First, I rinsed my mouth with warm salt water (it stings but helps), then used a cold pack on my cheek to keep swelling down. Ibuprofen helped take the edge off, and I avoided chewing on that side (which was tough, trust me). Stuck to soft foods and tried not to poke at it with my tongue, though that’s basically impossible. Anyone got better hacks for this? Like, is there something I’m missing that works faster?

Chipped my front tooth on a rogue tortilla chip while wearing braces—talk about insult to injury. Couldn’t even blame popcorn. I did the salt water thing like you, but it honestly felt like pouring lemon juice on a paper cut. I also tried that dental wax stuff (the kind you get for braces), just smooshed it over the jagged edge so it stopped tearing up my lip every time I talked. Not pretty, but it worked.

One weird trick I found: a tiny dab of clove oil right on the chip. Tastes like chewing on a Christmas ornament, but it numbed the ache for a bit. I’d avoid anything super hot or cold though, unless you’re into sudden regret. And yeah, keeping your tongue away is basically impossible—the struggle is real.

I swear, waiting to see the dentist felt like the longest 36 hours of my life. At least with braces, I was used to eating mashed potatoes and yogurt... silver linings, I guess.

That’s some serious bad luck—tortilla chips are sneaky like that. The dental wax trick is a lifesaver, even if it feels like you’re patching up a leaky boat. Clove oil’s got that old-school vibe; I’ve used it in a pinch and yeah, the taste is brutal, but it does take the edge off. Waiting for the dentist is pure torture, especially when you’re stuck with soft foods. At least you found a way to keep things manageable until your appointment. It’s rough, but you handled it better than most would.

Tortilla chips really are out to get us, aren’t they? I chipped a tooth on one last year and thought I was the only person that unlucky. Clove oil helped, but honestly, I couldn’t handle the taste for long—felt like chewing on a Christmas candle. Dental wax was a game-changer though. I swear, soft foods get old fast… mashed potatoes and yogurt nonstop made me miss pizza so much. Waiting for the dentist felt endless, but knowing there’s stuff you can do in the meantime makes it less scary.

Dental wax really does make a difference, especially if the edge is sharp and keeps catching your tongue—definitely underrated. I tried clove oil once too but yeah, that taste lingers in a weird way. For me, using a straw helped with drinks so cold stuff didn’t hit the tooth directly. The soft food rut is real though... after three days of oatmeal, I was desperate for anything crunchy.
