Knocked out a tooth? Saw this wild story…

I just read about this guy who lost his front tooth during a pickup basketball game and apparently he stuck it back in his mouth and ran to the dentist. The article says you can actually save your tooth if you put it back in ASAP (or keep it in milk, which sounds kinda gross). Anyone ever had to do that? I’d probably panic and forget what to do… curious if anyone’s actually pulled this off or if it’s just one of those things you hear about but never see.

I’ve always wondered about that “put it in milk” advice too. My dentist actually said you shouldn’t just shove it back in unless it’s really clean—if there’s dirt or you handle the root too much, you could make things worse. I’d probably freeze up in the moment, honestly. Anyone else ever get mixed messages from dentists about what to do?

Honestly, same. I once chipped a tooth at a BBQ (don’t ask) and my first instinct was to Google “what now” while holding an ice pack to my face. My dentist told me the milk thing too, but then another one said “just keep it moist, even spit works.” Not exactly the gourmet solution I hoped for. I guess as long as you don’t scrub it clean like a potato, you’re doing okay? The advice always seems to change depending on who you ask… makes me wonder if there’s a secret dentist group chat where they make up new rules for fun.

I’ve definitely heard the milk vs. spit debate too, but honestly, I think the main thing is just acting fast. I actually knocked out a front tooth as a teenager (skateboard fail), and my dentist said time mattered more than what I put it in. I did the milk thing, but I wonder if it really made a difference or if it’s just what everyone says? The conflicting advice is wild, but keeping calm is probably the hardest part. Anyone else get totally overwhelmed when something like that happens?

Honestly, the panic is real—I knocked one out at a bar (don’t ask), and my brain just froze. My friend shoved it in a cup of milk from behind the bar, which felt ridiculous. Dentist said it helped, but honestly, I think just getting there fast was the main thing. Never thought I’d be grateful for random bar milk, but here we are…
