I’ve actually had better luck just using a soft toothbrush and some unscented liquid soap (like Dr. Bronner’s) on my trays. I get what you mean about the tablets—mine left this weird film and the taste lingered for hours. The toothbrush method keeps them clear enough for me, but I do notice if I skip even a day, they start getting that cloudy look. I tried baking soda once, but it felt gritty and made me nervous about scratching the plastic. Haven’t noticed any smells or stains as long as I rinse right after eating, though. Maybe it’s more about consistency than the actual product?

I totally get what you mean. I used to just toss my retainer in a case at night and forget about it, but now with these trays, it’s like I’m running a mini science lab in my bathroom. I tried the cleaning tablets too and had the same issue—my trays came out looking kind of cloudy, and that taste lingered for hours. Not a fan.

I’ve also gotten a bit obsessive about rinsing both my mouth and the trays before popping them back in. It feels like if I slack off even once, I’m doomed to that weird film forever. Does anyone else get super anxious about scratching the trays? I swear I can feel every tiny mark and then worry it’ll mess up the whole process. Maybe I’m just overthinking it, but I’d rather stick to the gentlest stuff possible.

That cloudy film drove me nuts, honestly. I tried a bunch of different things because I didn’t want to keep buying those cleaning tablets—felt like I was just pouring money down the drain. Someone suggested using just clear liquid soap and a super soft toothbrush, and that’s been the cheapest fix for me. I’m careful not to scrub too hard since I also get anxious about scratching them up… I swear, one little nick and I’m convinced it’ll turn into a bacteria magnet.

I did try vinegar once (diluted, obviously) and it helped with the film but left a weird aftertaste for a day or two. Not my favorite experiment. At this point, I just rinse obsessively and stick to gentle soap every day. My dentist said the film is pretty much inevitable if you’re drinking anything besides water with them in, so maybe it’s just part of the ride.

Also, totally relate to feeling like you’re running a science lab—my bathroom counter looks like a chemistry set now.

That cloudy film is relentless, isn’t it? I’ve been wearing these for a while now and honestly, I still get that haze no matter how careful I am. I tried the vinegar trick once too—never again. The taste just lingered forever. I stick with mild dish soap and a soft brush, same as you, but sometimes I wonder if it’s even possible to keep them crystal clear. My hygienist said a little cloudiness is normal and not to stress unless there’s odor or buildup you can’t remove. Still, every morning feels like I’m prepping for a science fair... drawers full of little brushes and bottles everywhere.
