I’ve been stressing about this exact thing for weeks, honestly. The price tag for a custom one is just... yikes. But hearing you say it actually helped with headaches and jaw pain makes me feel better about maybe going that route. I keep waking up with my store-bought guard halfway across the room, and I worry I’m just making things worse. Still, it’s tough to spend so much when insurance barely helps. Glad to hear the fit is worth it, though—it gives me hope it won’t be a waste.

I totally get where you’re coming from—the price tag for a custom guard made me cringe, too. But honestly, after years of waking up with those cheap guards flung somewhere under the bed, I finally caved and got the custom one. It’s wild how much better it fits. I literally stopped grinding through the night, which I didn’t even realize was making my jaw ache so much. The upfront cost stings, but not having constant headaches has been worth it for me. I do wish insurance covered more, though... that part’s a pain.

I used those boil-and-bite ones for years—never really felt comfortable, and honestly, I’d wake up with it halfway out of my mouth or chewed to bits. Once my dentist talked me into a custom guard, I realized how much better I slept. The cost annoyed me at first, but it’s lasted way longer than the cheapies ever did. Still wish insurance would pitch in more... but at least my jaw isn’t sore every morning now.

I get where you’re coming from, but I actually had a different experience. The custom guard felt too bulky for me, even after a few adjustments. Funny enough, the boil-and-bite ones fit better for my weird bite. Guess everyone’s mouth is just... different?

That’s interesting, because my experience was almost the opposite. I’ve tinkered with both types, and the custom guard was a game-changer for me—once it was thinned out a bit, it just sort of “clicked” into place, if that makes sense. But yeah, those boil-and-bite ones always felt a bit off, like they’d shift around if I clenched too hard. I do wonder if it comes down to bite alignment or maybe even jaw muscle tension. Either way, you’re right—there’s no universal fit when it comes to these things...
