Which one actually gets your teeth cleaner: blasting with water or good ol’ string floss?

I totally relate to the whole floss shredding thing—it’s so frustrating. I used to dread flossing for that exact reason. When I switched to a water flosser, it honestly made me way more consistent. My dentist said string floss can get right up against the tooth better, but if you’re not actually doing it because it’s annoying or painful, it doesn’t really matter, right? For me, the water flosser just fits into my routine better and my mouth feels fresher. I guess whatever keeps us motivated is the real winner here.

I get what you mean about consistency—honestly, that’s half the battle. But I do wonder sometimes if water flossers are enough for everyone. My kid has super tight teeth, and our dentist was pretty insistent on string floss, at least for now.

I wish that were always true! We tried a water flosser for a bit, but some gunk still stuck between those stubborn molars. Maybe it depends on your teeth? I just worry about missing stuff with only water, even if it feels fresher...

String floss is still my nemesis, but I gotta admit, it works better for me than the water jet thing. I bought a water flosser thinking it’d be a game changer—felt like a mini car wash for my mouth—but there was always that stubborn popcorn hull wedged in tight. My dentist said the same: if your teeth are super close together, water just can’t get in those tiny spaces. I guess for some folks it’s fine, but for my “crowded subway at rush hour” teeth, string is still king... even if I grumble about it every night.

String floss is a pain for me too, but I keep coming back to it because it’s cheap and I can buy a big pack that lasts forever. Water flossers look cool but the price tag always makes me hesitate. Has anyone found a budget water flosser that actually works for tight teeth?

I had braces last year and string floss was a nightmare, honestly. I ended up getting a cheap countertop water flosser off Amazon—think it was under $40. It’s not as fancy as the big brands but it cleared out stuff my floss never touched, especially around my wires. My teeth are pretty tight and it managed to get between them, but I still use string floss a couple times a week just to be safe. Have you checked out reviews for the off-brand ones? They usually mention whether they work for tight spaces.
