Keeping pain at bay after wisdom tooth extraction: worth the fuss?

I totally relate to the anxiety with the syringe—felt like I needed a steady hand or something. Did you ever worry about messing up the stitches or accidentally causing dry socket? My dentist was super strict too, but I kept second-guessing if I really needed to avoid all crunchy stuff for that long. Honestly, I still wonder if I was being too paranoid or if it actually made a big difference. The soft foods thing got old fast, but I was too scared to risk anything else. Did you ever feel like you were overthinking every little thing?

The syringe thing was wild—felt like I was defusing a bomb every time I used it. Did you ever get paranoid about sleeping on the wrong side and somehow ruining everything? I kept Googling “signs of dry socket” like three times a day... probably overkill, right?

That syringe stressed me out too. My kid just had their wisdom teeth out and I swear, I hovered every night, checking if they were sleeping upright enough or accidentally rolled onto the “wrong” side. Google became my best friend and worst enemy... I kept second-guessing if a little ache was normal or a sign of disaster. Did you notice any weird taste or smell during healing? That part made me super anxious.

That weird taste thing really threw me off too. I kept worrying it meant something was wrong, especially when my stitches started dissolving and everything tasted a bit metallic. My dentist said some odd flavors and even mild smells are pretty normal as things heal, but it’s hard not to overthink every little change. Did your kid have issues with swelling or bruising? Mine looked like a chipmunk for days, which definitely added to my anxiety...

Yeah, the swelling is no joke. My daughter’s face ballooned up too, and it freaked her out more than the actual pain. What helped us most was sticking to the ice pack routine—20 minutes on, 20 off for the first day or two. The weird taste thing lingered a bit, but as long as there’s no fever or serious pain, our dentist said it’s just part of healing. Still, I totally get second-guessing every symptom.
