That weird metallic taste totally threw me off too. For me, I had this annoying tingling in my cheek and lip that lingered for almost a month. What helped most was sticking with soft foods and being gentle when brushing. It’s so gradual, isn’t it? One day you just realize things feel almost normal again.

That metallic taste was wild, right? I kept thinking my mouth had turned into a battery for a week or two. The tingling thing happened to me too, but it was more like my face was trying to get WiFi and failing. I basically lived off mashed potatoes and yogurt for a while. Brushing felt like defusing a bomb—one wrong move and ouch. But yeah, it’s like your brain just forgets about the weirdness one day and you’re back to normal... or at least as normal as before.

That’s exactly how it was for my kid, too. It honestly felt like we had to map out every step: first, super soft toothbrush, then barely any pressure, and even then, he’d flinch if I got too close to the sore spot. The mashed potatoes and yogurt diet was a lifesaver here as well—he refused anything else for at least a week. The metallic taste threw him off, but it faded quicker than I expected—maybe after four or five days.

It took him about two weeks before things felt “normal” again, but every kid heals a bit differently. Did you or anyone else notice if the tingling in your face lasted longer than the taste? For my son, the weird numbness hung around even after he could eat normally again, which made me a little nervous. I kept second-guessing if that was okay or if we needed to check in with the dentist again. Curious if that’s common or if we just got unlucky with the timeline.

That tingling and numbness thing really messed with my head, too. I remember thinking it was gone, then suddenly my lip would feel weird again for a few hours. The metallic taste faded fast for me—maybe three days—but the numb spot on my chin stuck around for almost three weeks. My dentist said nerves can take their sweet time to settle down, but it’s still nerve-wracking (no pun intended). Did your son ever mention if cold air or drinks made it worse? That used to set mine off all over again.

That weird numbness drove me nuts, too. My lip and chin felt like they were asleep for ages, and every time I thought it was finally wearing off, it would come back out of nowhere. I remember brushing my teeth one morning and suddenly realizing half my chin felt tingly again—almost two weeks after the surgery. The metallic taste thing didn’t last long for me either, maybe a couple days tops, but the nerve stuff just lingered.

Cold air was a nightmare. Even just walking outside or sipping something cold would make that spot tingle like crazy, so I totally get what you’re saying. I started using a scarf indoors just to avoid that weird sensation. My dentist said it’s pretty normal, but honestly, it felt anything but normal at the time. It does get better, but it’s slow and kind of unpredictable. Sometimes I wonder if nerves ever really go back to exactly how they were before...
