"Did you find that earlier visits helped your son get comfortable faster, or was it more stressful than helpful at first?"
Honestly, from my experience, starting early was a big plus. Took my daughter in around 7 months when her first tooth showed up, and even though she fussed a bit, it wasn't as stressful as I'd imagined. By her third visit, she was already familiar with the environment and seemed pretty calm. Maybe it's more about consistency than exact timing...but every kid's different. Has your dentist given you any specific advice on timing?
We waited a bit longer with our sonβaround 14 monthsβand honestly, it didn't seem to make much difference in terms of comfort. He was pretty wary the first couple visits regardless. I get the consistency argument, but sometimes I wonder if it's more about personality than timing. My niece started super early too, and even after multiple visits, she still gets anxious every time. Maybe some kids just naturally adjust quicker than others?
Our dentist mentioned that as long as you're brushing regularly and keeping an eye on things, there's no huge rush to get them in right away. Obviously, earlier visits can help catch issues sooner, but I'm not convinced they always make the kid more comfortable long-term. Just my two cents...
From my experience, personality definitely plays a big role. I've seen plenty of kiddos who started visits super early and still get anxious, while some who came later adapted pretty quickly. But I wouldn't totally dismiss the timing eitherβearly visits can be helpful just to catch little issues (like enamel weaknesses or cavities) before they turn into bigger headaches down the road. Curious though, did anyone find certain techniques or approaches helped ease anxiety during those first few trips?
Totally agree personality matters a ton, but I've also noticed that making the dentist seem like a fun, normal outing helps a lot. My niece was super anxious at first, but bringing her favorite stuffed animal along and letting her watch cartoons during the visit made a huge difference.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I'm an adult and still get anxious about dentist visits, lol. I wonder if bringing something comforting or distracting would help adults too? 🤔 Anyway, I've heard mixed things about when exactly to start dentist visits for babiesβsome say as soon as the first tooth pops up, others say around their first birthday. Is there really a big difference between going at 6 months vs. 12 months? Curious if anyone's pediatrician or dentist gave specific advice on timing...
