Been thinking about getting dental sealants for my kids, but um... not totally convinced they're necessary. Curious what others here think. Quick poll: Do you or your family members have dental sealants?
- Yep, got 'em and no cavities yet
- Nope, don't think they're needed
- Had them, but still got cavities anyway
- Considering it but undecided

Totally get this... I was super anxious about dental stuff as a kid and still am, honestly. Had sealants done myself—didn't stop every cavity, but maybe helped some? Curious if anyone else found sealants made dentist visits less stressful for their kids.
I can relate to this anxiety around dental visits and treatments—it's something I've dealt with my entire life, too. Had sealants put on my own teeth years ago, and while they weren't a miracle cure, they definitely reduced the number of cavities I ended up getting. I think the key is understanding they're not a foolproof guarantee, just an extra layer of protection.

From what I've noticed with my grandkids, sealants did seem to ease some of their anxiety at appointments. The dentist visits felt quicker and less invasive since it was mostly check-ups rather than fillings or drilling. But every kid is different—my youngest granddaughter still gets pretty tense, sealants or no sealants. In my experience, combining sealants with good brushing habits and regular dentist visits is probably the best bet for reducing stress and preventing cavities overall.
Totally agree—sealants aren't magic, but they really do help ease anxiety by reducing the need for invasive procedures. I've noticed with my kids that once they realized visits were mostly quick checks rather than drills and fillings, they relaxed a lot more. Of course, it didn't erase their nervousness completely...but definitely made appointments feel less intimidating overall. Like you said though, brushing habits and regular checkups are still key.
