How do you keep your gums happy between dentist visits?
I used to get all hung up on missing a day too, but honestly, my gums have still gotten better just by flossing most days. Not perfect, but progress, y’know? I’ve also tried those little soft picks when I’m feeling lazy or just watching TV. Anyone else notice a difference with mouthwash or water flossers? I always wonder if those actually help or if it’s just marketing hype...
I agree that taking the pressure off perfection can help people build the habit, but I’d qualify “a few times a week is way better than nothing.” It shouldn’t replace aiming to clean between the teeth daily, since plaque can remain in areas brushing can’t reach and may harden over time. For a young patient especially, I’d make daily cleaning the goal, while treating missed days as a reason to restart - not give up.
