What surprised me about reshaping your gums

That’s such a good point about speech—people really underestimate how much even little gum changes can mess with the way your tongue moves. I’ve seen adults get frustrated too, not just kids. Saltwater rinses are annoying, but I’ve always found they speed things up, even if it’s just a bit more comfortable. The resilience of gums is wild though. Compared to bone, it’s night and day when it comes to healing. Wisdom teeth recovery was a whole saga for me—gums bounced back, but my jaw felt off for weeks.

I totally relate—my jaw was sore for weeks after wisdom teeth, but my gums seemed to heal overnight. Honestly, I think people downplay how much these little procedures impact daily stuff like eating and talking. Saltwater rinses are cheap and easy, but I always wonder if pricier mouthwashes actually do more... For me, sticking with the basics saved money and still worked fine.

I get the appeal of sticking with saltwater rinses, but I actually went the other way and tried a pricier mouthwash after my gum procedure. The dentist recommended one with chlorhexidine, and I figured if I was already spending on the surgery, an extra $10 for something that might prevent infection was worth it. Honestly, my gums healed really smoothly—no weird taste or irritation either. Maybe the basics work for most people, but I felt better having that extra layer of protection, even if it cost a bit more. Sometimes peace of mind is worth a few bucks.

I get where you’re coming from—peace of mind is hard to put a price on. For me, I stuck with saltwater since my insurance barely covered the procedure and every extra dollar felt like too much. I was nervous about infection, but my dentist said as long as I kept up with rinsing and didn’t poke at my gums, I’d probably be fine. I guess it worked out, but I did have a few days where I wondered if I should’ve just shelled out for the mouthwash. Funny how these little decisions feel huge when you’re healing...

I totally get that feeling—when you’re in recovery mode, every little choice feels like it matters way more than it probably does. I remember after my gum contouring, I debated for ages about buying the fancy rinse or just sticking to saltwater. Ended up going with saltwater too, mostly because my wallet was already hurting. Had a couple of paranoid days, kept checking for signs of infection, but it healed up fine. Sometimes the basics really do the trick, even if you’re second-guessing yourself the whole time.
