Which is better for implant soreness: painkillers or just waiting it out?

Whenever my implant acts up, I’m torn between popping some ibuprofen or just toughing it out with a heating pad and some patience. Anyone have a preference? Does one actually help more than the other?

Ibuprofen always seems like the obvious choice, but honestly, I hesitate because it adds up if you use it often. I’ve found that a heating pad helps a bit, especially if the soreness isn’t too intense. Feels more cost-effective too. Sometimes I just wait it out unless it’s really bugging me. Anyone else feel weird taking meds for every little ache? I do wonder if I’m missing out on faster relief though...

I get what you mean about not wanting to pop pills for every little thing. I usually start with the heating pad too—sometimes just having that warmth is enough to distract me from the ache. But if it’s one of those days where it feels like my jaw is throbbing, I’ll cave and take ibuprofen. Honestly, I always wonder if I’m being a wimp or if I should just tough it out... but then again, why suffer if you don’t have to? My wallet definitely prefers the heat pad approach, though.

I’m right there with you—sometimes I tell myself I’ll just “tough it out,” but then my jaw starts pulsing like a drum and suddenly the ibuprofen doesn’t seem so bad. I do like the heat pad, though… feels like a mini spa for my face. My dentist always says not to be a hero—pain relief exists for a reason. But yeah, those pharmacy trips add up fast. If only heat pads worked for everything, right?

That’s exactly my dilemma—I always feel like I *should* just deal with it, but then the throbbing gets to me and I cave. I read somewhere that inflammation around an implant can actually get worse if you don’t control it, so now I worry I’m making things harder for myself by waiting. Ibuprofen usually takes the edge off, but I also get paranoid about taking too much or relying on it. The heating pad is comforting, but honestly, if the pain’s bad, it barely makes a dent. Wish there was a middle ground—like maybe alternating both? Or am I just overthinking this whole thing…
