That “denture spot” thing cracked me up because my kid’s retainer has ended up in some wild places—one time it was in the freezer, don’t even ask. I totally get the whole routine struggle. For us, it’s like: Step 1, remember where the thing is. Step 2, try to get the actual cleaning done before bedtime chaos hits. I’m with you on the old-school scrubbing—it just feels right. But yeah, those little nooks and crannies are tricky. We started alternating between a soak and a scrub, mostly because my son thinks the fizzing tablets are “like tiny science experiments.” Whatever gets him to actually do it, right?

I haven’t tried the UV box yet, but now I’m curious. If it saves us from the occasional “what’s that smell?” moment, I’m sold. And honestly, if the thing ends up on the dashboard during school drop-off, at least it’s getting some sun.

- Lost retainers are basically a rite of passage in my house too. Once found one jammed behind the couch cushions, and another time it was in a shoe... Don’t even know how it got there.
- I’m with you on manual scrubbing—there’s something about actually seeing the grime come off that makes you feel like it’s cleaner. Those cleaning tablets are decent but I don’t fully trust them to get into every little crevice, especially if you’re dealing with stubborn buildup.
- We tried a UV sanitizer for a while. Honestly, it’s convenient for peace of mind, but I still end up giving everything a quick brush after. Maybe I’m just old school? Not sure the UV box alone would cut it if someone forgets to rinse first.
- Kid logic always amazes me... If fizzing tablets make the process more fun and they actually use them, that’s a win. Whatever gets the job done without a nightly argument.
- The dashboard trick made me laugh. At least sunlight is a natural disinfectant, right? Not exactly “by the book” but sometimes you just have to improvise when life gets hectic.

I’ve definitely left mine in the car cupholder before and pretended it was on purpose for “solar cleaning.” Honestly, I trust a good old toothbrush more than any gadget. Those tablets fizz all they want but nothing beats seeing the gunk go down the drain.

Totally with you there. I’ve tried every “miracle soak” and half the time I just end up scrubbing with an old toothbrush anyway. That dashboard trick, though… hope you don’t mind a little melted plastic flavor now and then. Sunlight’s great, but I’d still rather trust elbow grease and hot water over any fancy gadget.

That dashboard trick always cracks me up—like, who came up with that? I can barely keep my keys from melting in the car, let alone trust the sun with my dentures. I’ve definitely been guilty of leaving mine in a cup on the counter for... longer than I’d care to admit. The fizzing tablets look cool (all science experiment-y), but my results are hit or miss. Sometimes it feels like they’re just making fancy bubbles while the real biofilm party is still going strong.

Hot water and a toothbrush have become my default, but then there’s always that little voice reminding me about “micro-scratches” and how I’m apparently shaving years off their lifespan. Not that I’m rough, but I get impatient and start scrubbing like I’m trying to win a prize. Anyone else get that weird satisfaction from seeing the gunk swirl away down the drain? It’s almost therapeutic.

I tried one of those ultrasonic cleaner things once—borrowed from a friend who swore by it. All I got was a weird humming noise and my dentures still looked suspiciously... unchanged. Maybe I did it wrong? Or maybe my coffee habit is just too much for modern technology.

Honestly, half the battle is just remembering to do it every night. My memory’s about as reliable as a leaky faucet. I’ve set phone alarms, left sticky notes, even tried associating denture cleaning with brushing my teeth, but sometimes life just gets in the way and they end up marinating in cold water until morning. No shame, right?

If anyone’s cracked the code to keeping them fresh without turning cleaning into a full-time job, I’m all ears. Until then, it’s me, my old toothbrush, and a prayer that I don’t drop them in the sink again...
