Totally get where you’re coming from. It’s weird how I’ll spend ages cleaning my glasses but put off flossing until my gums start yelling at me. The water flosser thing made me laugh—my nephew did the same, and the bathroom looked like a car wash after. But honestly, sticking with it really does help. I used to dread those dentist appointments, but now it’s way less stressful…and cheaper in the long run, which matters a lot for me. You’re not alone in the struggle.
Losing teeth from gum issues: saw this in the news, anyone relate?
Yeah, I totally get the glasses vs. flossing thing. For me, I’ll spend ten minutes making my coffee “just right” but somehow can’t be bothered to floss for thirty seconds—until my gums start acting up and suddenly I’m frantically Googling “how to reverse gingivitis.” The water flosser? Seriously, first time I tried it, I managed to spray myself in the eye and soaked half the counter. My partner walked in and just shook his head. Now I keep a towel handy because apparently it’s a whole event.
But you’re right about sticking with it helping. I used to dread every checkup, like that walk of shame when you know you haven’t done what you were supposed to. The hygienist would give me That Look and suddenly my mouth felt twice as gross. But after a couple months of forcing myself to keep up with cleaning—flossing, brushing, all that—I actually started looking forward to appointments because there was less bad news (and less guilt).
Honestly though, I still have days where it feels like too much effort. Some people act like it’s just “brush and floss and you’ll be fine,” but genetics or whatever can really mess with you. My aunt lost a couple teeth even though she was way more diligent than me, so sometimes I think there’s only so much we can control.
Cheaper in the long run is no joke, either. I had a nasty surprise bill for a deep cleaning last year—insurance only covered half and my wallet still hasn’t forgiven me.
Anyway, glad I’m not the only one who struggles with this stuff. The struggle is real... but at least we can laugh about it (sometimes).
