I get why soups are a go-to, but honestly, I think oatmeal gets a bad rap here.

“soups definitely beat the mess oatmeal can make in braces”
If you keep it runny and rinse well after, it’s not that bad. Plus, it’s filling and you can mix in mashed bananas or nut butter for extra flavor and protein. I found it more satisfying than broth when my kid had braces—just had to remind him to swish water after eating.

Oatmeal was a lifesaver for me those first few days. I totally get the mess factor, but honestly, it was way easier on my teeth than even mashed potatoes sometimes. I’d add a bit of cinnamon or honey—just had to brush extra carefully after. It’s all about the rinse, like you said.

Funny, I actually found mashed potatoes trickier too—something about the way they’d stick to the brackets drove me nuts. Did you ever try cold foods, like yogurt or smoothies? I remember those being a total relief when my mouth felt sore.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean about mashed potatoes. I thought they’d be the easiest thing ever, but nope—just made everything feel gummier and kind of gross. Yogurt was a lifesaver for me, especially when my teeth felt super sensitive. I tried ice cream too, but honestly, it made my mouth ache more sometimes. Still figuring out what actually works without making things worse...

Mashed potatoes really had me fooled too. I thought they’d be my go-to, but they just turned into this sticky mess that glued itself to every bracket. I ended up switching to scrambled eggs and those little cups of applesauce—way less drama. Yogurt was decent, but after a few days, I started craving something with actual texture. The cold from ice cream made my teeth ache like crazy, so I totally get that. Honestly, soup (as long as it’s not boiling hot) became my best friend for a while.
