What’s a realistic yearly cost for replacing a manual toothbrush?

I’m trying to compare the annual cost of replacing a basic manual toothbrush on schedule with buying a premium one and keeping it longer. For example, if a basic brush costs about $2, a mid-range brush $5, and a premium brush $10, replacing each every three months would cost roughly $8, $20, or $40 per year.
Should the replacement be every three months regardless, or sooner if the bristles start fraying? Do illness or orthodontic wear justify replacing it earlier? I’m mainly trying to work out whether the cheaper brush replaced while the bristles are still in good condition is better value than stretching a more expensive brush past its useful life.
