Swapping string floss for a water jet—worth it?

Took the plunge on one of those water flossers after my gums bled (again) with regular floss. Honestly, it feels kinda weird at first, but my mouth feels cleaner? Way less bleeding too. Am I just imagining this or has it helped anyone else’s gums calm down?

My kid’s dentist actually recommended a water flosser after we had a few battles over string floss. His gums used to bleed a ton, but after a couple weeks with the water jet, way less blood and he doesn’t complain anymore. It’s messy at first, but honestly, it’s been a win for us. I think you’re onto something—our hygienist said it’s gentler for sensitive gums.

Honestly, I had the same issue—my gums were always sore and bleeding with string floss. Switching to a water flosser made a huge difference for me too. Yeah, it can be a little splashy at first, but totally worth it for the comfort. Kids especially seem to tolerate it better. Glad you found something that works!

I get the appeal, but I still stick with string floss most days.

For me, the water jet just didn’t feel like it got everything out, especially between tight teeth. Maybe it’s just habit, but I like the “squeaky clean” feeling after regular floss.

I get what you mean about the water flosser feeling weird at first. I switched because my gums were always sore and bleeding too, and honestly, things did improve a bit. Still, I keep worrying if it’s really cleaning enough—like, what if I’m missing stuff between teeth? Sometimes I go back to string floss just to be sure. The less bleeding is nice, but I’m paranoid about gum disease, so I keep double-checking.
