Would you freak out if your stitches took longer to dissolve?

I get what you mean about the crunchy foods being a nightmare. I was told to avoid anything with sharp edges, so crackers and chips were off my list for a while too. What’s weird is, I found chewy stuff like bread or pasta sometimes stuck around the stitches more than I expected, but it didn’t hurt unless I tried to clean it out too aggressively. That’s usually where I’d mess up—overthinking the cleaning part and ending up with sore gums.

Swelling is tricky. Mine would flare up a bit if I poked at the stitches (can totally relate to the tongue thing, it’s hard not to mess with them). But overall, as long as I kept up with saltwater rinses and didn’t rush back into normal eating, things settled down. The dissolvable stitches actually hung around longer than my dentist said they would—almost two weeks instead of seven days—which did freak me out a little. I kept checking in the mirror and wondering if something was wrong or if they’d ever disappear.

What helped me chill out was remembering that everyone’s mouth heals at its own pace. My friend had hers dissolve in five days, but mine took double that. No infection or major swelling, so my dentist said it was just how my body processed things. Still, those extra days made me question everything—especially since dental work isn’t cheap and a follow-up would’ve been another hit to my wallet.

Long story short, yeah, it’s probably different for everyone. If there’s no pain or weird discharge, waiting it out seems okay... but man, those stitches felt like they’d never leave.

I totally get the paranoia about those stitches lingering. I remember checking mine in every mirror I passed, convinced they were stuck for good. My dentist said 7-10 days, but they held on for almost two weeks. I kept poking at them with my tongue and honestly, that probably didn’t help the swelling either. It’s weird how healing never goes exactly by the book. As long as there’s no pain or weird smell, it’s probably just your body doing its thing, even if it feels like forever.

I get nervous when things don’t follow the timeline they’re supposed to, especially with anything dental. I had some dissolvable stitches after a tooth extraction and they were still hanging on after two weeks. I kept worrying they’d never go away. My dentist said not to touch them, but it’s hard not to fuss, right? As long as there’s no pain or weird taste, I try to remind myself it’s probably fine… but I still check every morning, just in case.

Yeah, I get you—stuff not going by the book stresses me out too, especially with teeth. Had wisdom teeth pulled last year and those stitches just wouldn’t budge.

Literally me poking at them with my tongue every hour. They finally dissolved after like 3 weeks. Didn’t hurt, so I guess it was fine... but man, it felt so weird.
