Dino plushies as currency would solve so many problems, honestly. I’d probably be overpaying for fillings just to get rid of my triceratops army.

Nitrous is such a weird one, right? First time I tried it, I expected to be totally zoned out, but instead I just felt like my head was a helium balloon and my hands were still gripping the chair for dear life. It’s like, “Cool, I’m floating… but also still terrified.” Ever tried oral sedation? That stuff actually made me sleepy enough to not care about the drill noises, but then you need someone to drive you home and that’s its own hassle.

Insurance is another beast. My last cleaning turned into a negotiation with the front desk about what was covered and what wasn’t. Adds a whole extra layer of anxiety before you even see the dentist. Does anyone else feel more nervous about the bill than the actual procedure sometimes? Or is that just me...

I totally get what you mean about the bill being scarier than the drill. My kid needed some fillings last year, and honestly, I was more tense waiting to hear what insurance would cover than during the actual appointment. Nitrous didn’t really help my kid relax either—she just got giggly but still clung to the chair. We did try oral sedation once, but yeah, coordinating a ride and the rest of the day was a pain. Does your dentist’s office ever give you a clear estimate before you go in? I feel like it’s always a guessing game...

Yeah, I totally relate to that insurance stress—sometimes I feel like the paperwork is more nerve-wracking than the actual dental work. My dentist’s office tries to give me an estimate, but it’s never exact. There’s always something that pops up or insurance codes that don’t match... I end up bracing myself for a surprise bill every time. I’ve thought about sedation too, but honestly, the hassle of arranging rides and taking the day off just adds to my anxiety. It’s like trading one worry for another.

.
- I’ve never tried sedation, but I always wonder if the extra planning just makes things worse.
- For me, nitrous (laughing gas) was less hassle since I could drive myself after. Still didn’t love the surprise costs though.
- It’s wild how something as simple as a cleaning can turn into a whole financial guessing game...
