Why is post-extraction care so confusing?

Honestly, I think a lot of it just comes down to how cautious each dentist is. Some are super strict, others are more chill. My oral surgeon told me noodles were fine as long as they weren’t super chewy, but then my friend’s dentist said “no pasta at all.” Same with the rinsing—maybe they’re just trying to cover all their bases because everyone heals a bit differently? I get wanting a clear chart, but I guess there’s not really a one-size-fits-all answer. Kind of annoying, but maybe that’s why the advice is all over the place.

Yeah, but I kinda think it’s less about the dentist being chill or strict and more about how there’s just not enough solid data on what actually works best. Like, everyone’s got their own “protocol” but nobody’s running double-blind pasta trials, y’know? I wish there was more tech in this space—imagine an app that tracked healing and gave you custom food recs based on your mouth status... probably overkill, but still.

I totally get what you mean—I felt so lost after my extraction last month. Every website and dentist seemed to say something different, and I was terrified of messing it up. I kept second-guessing if I could eat soup or if that was too risky... Would love some kind of guidance that wasn’t just “soft foods for a while.” You’re definitely not alone in wishing for more clarity.

I totally relate—after my last tooth came out, I was reading everything I could find and still felt clueless. It’s wild how even dentists don’t always agree. I remember being scared to even sip on lukewarm tea, but it turned out okay. Honestly, a bit of common sense and listening to your own comfort level goes a long way. Hang in there—it does get clearer after the first few days.

I’m with you on the confusion—after my wisdom tooth extraction, I felt like every website and friend had a totally different “must do” or “never do” rule. One person swore by ice cream, another said only soup, and my dentist just shrugged and said, “soft foods.” I definitely overthought the whole rinsing thing, too. Ended up just sticking to yogurt and Netflix for two days… not the worst recovery plan, honestly.
