Pineapple juice, huh? I wish I’d known that trick before—I just looked like a chipmunk for a week. General anesthesia was a lifesaver for me though, no way could I have handled being awake. And yeah, yogurt gets old fast... mashed potatoes were my go-to.

I can relate to the chipmunk look—my swelling lasted almost a week, too. General anesthesia was a must for me as well; I can’t imagine the stress of staying conscious through that. I kept alternating between mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs, but honestly, even those got old after day three. One thing that helped with the discomfort was cold compresses every few hours. I’ve heard about the pineapple juice thing, but I’m skeptical about how much it really helps with swelling. Anyone else try that and notice a difference?

Totally get that—soft foods get boring fast. I remember just wanting a burger by day four, but my jaw wasn’t having it. Cold compresses definitely helped me more than any juice trick. Pineapple juice sounded promising, but I didn’t notice any difference with swelling either. General anesthesia was 100% the right call though, no way I could’ve dealt with all the noises and pressure awake. Hang in there, it gets better pretty quick after that first week.

It’s funny you mention the pineapple juice thing—I kept seeing people swear by it online, but when I had all four out, I honestly couldn’t tell if it did anything. I was so focused on not messing up the gauze and trying not to swallow too much blood (ugh) that juice was the last thing on my mind after day one. But yeah, cold packs were my lifeline. I remember being paranoid about not icing enough and then suddenly worrying I was overdoing it and maybe making it worse somehow.

I totally relate to the food fatigue, too. I thought pudding and yogurt would be a treat, but after a couple days, even the smell made me queasy. Ended up just sipping lukewarm soup for most meals and feeling like a grandma. At one point, I got desperate and tried to blend mac and cheese... which was a mistake I won’t repeat.

General anesthesia was a relief for me, but I’ve heard from a few people who chose local anesthesia because they were nervous about being put under. That honestly would’ve stressed me out more—just the idea of hearing everything, even if you can’t feel it, makes my skin crawl. Did anyone here actually go the local route? Wondering if it’s as unsettling as it sounds or if it’s just my anxiety talking.

Swelling was my main worry before the surgery, but what caught me off guard was how tired I felt for days afterwards. Like, not just sore—full-on wiped out. Maybe that’s just me being sensitive to anesthesia or something? Curious if anyone else felt like that or if I’m just extra sensitive to these things.

Also, did anyone else get freaked out about dry socket? I felt like every time I swallowed or yawned, something bad was gonna happen.

I’m glad you brought up local anesthesia because I actually opted for it when I had mine out, and honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I’d feared. The weirdest part was the pressure and all the tugging sounds—definitely not pleasant, but manageable if you’re mentally prepared. In hindsight, I think the anxiety leading up to it was worse than the procedure itself. As for swelling, cold compresses were much more effective than any “miracle” juice or supplement. And yes, the exhaustion after—totally normal in my experience. It took me nearly a week to feel like myself again. Dry socket paranoia? That’s universal, I think... every little twinge had me convinced something was wrong.
