RE: My Gums Are Mad at Me - A Toothbrush Tale
The deep-cleaning example fits the limited role of a saltwater rinse: it may be recommended for short-term comfort after some dental procedures. That doesn’t show it treats whatever is causing red, swollen gums, though. ...
RE: What Did You Have To Take Before Your Oral Surgery?
I get where you're coming from, but our dentist actually recommended antibiotics for my kid even though there weren’t any obvious risk factors. He said sometimes kids just have a tougher time keeping the area clean, so i...
RE: Kicked cigarettes for a vape - my gums actually stopped bleeding
Yeah, we actually saw something similar with my teen. They switched to vaping after years of sneaking cigarettes, and I was honestly surprised by how quickly their gums improved. Used to be a lot of bleeding and sore spo...
RE: WHICH WAS EASIER FOR YOU: SINGLE TOOTH IMPLANT OR MULTIPLE EXTRACTIONS?
We went through this with my kid last year and I totally get the stress. The waiting between implant steps was way harder for us, too. With extractions, it was over and done - lots of swelling, but at least you know what...
RE: Weird but true: salt water rinses are actually an old-school trick for easing denture gum pain.
Yeah, the taste is definitely the worst part - my kid had to do salt rinses after having a baby tooth pulled, and getting him to swish it around was a battle every time. What worked for us was measuring out the salt with...
RE: Weird but true: salt water rinses are actually an old-school trick for easing denture gum pain.
That’s so true. When my daughter first got her braces, her orthodontist suggested salt water rinses for the soreness, and I figured it was simple enough - just salt and water, right? Turns out, getting the ratio wrong ma...
RE: ADJUSTING TO A MOUTH FULL OF NEW HARDWARE: A DAILY TALE
The sticky food ban is the stuff of legends around here - my kid still asks about Skittles every single week. I totally relate to the “chew on the other side” trick, but honestly, it’s like those wires have a sixth sense...
RE: Why Does Post-Extraction Care Feel Like a Mystery?
I totally get where you’re coming from. My kid had a tooth pulled recently and I felt like I was on a scavenger hunt trying to piece together all the aftercare rules. One dentist said “no brushing near the site for 3 day...
RE: Making the Switch: My Steps for Choosing a Gentler Mouthwash
We went through this with my kiddo too. At first, I was convinced the stronger the better, but it just made her gums sore and she hated it. Now we stick with a gentle rinse, and honestly, as long as she brushes and uses ...
RE: Why Does Post-Extraction Care Feel Like a Mystery?
That straw thing really does sound fake at first, but after my daughter’s extraction last year, I’m a believer. She begged for a smoothie and I almost caved, but then I remembered that warning. The dentist explained it l...
RE: Why is post-extraction care so confusing?
This is so relatable. My kid had to get a baby tooth pulled last year, and I remember reading the aftercare sheet like it was some kind of cryptic riddle. “No spitting, no straws, no vigorous rinsing, avoid negative pres...
RE: braces vs clear aligners: which made you feel less self-conscious?
That’s so true. For my daughter, it actually went the other way - she was more self-conscious with aligners because she had to pop them out before eating, even at school. She worried people would notice or think it was w...
RE: What’s More Important To Ask: Pain Management Or Long-Term Tooth Health?
I get what you’re saying, but honestly, pain management is a huge deal for kids. My daughter had a filling last year, and even though the dentist said it was minor, she was so scared after a bad experience with a shot be...
RE: What do you actually eat with aligners?
Totally get where you’re coming from - my kid’s been on aligners for a few months now, and meal times definitely needed a new routine. We stick to a step-by-step: first, aligners out before any food, no exceptions (learn...
RE: The great dental quest: searching for planet-friendly floss
We’ve been on the same hunt for something that’s both gentle and eco-friendly, especially since my kiddo got an expander last year. I totally hear you about the floss getting stuck - some of those “green” brands seem to ...
