RE: Orthodontic wax or silicone covers for one bracket that keeps rubbing?
For a reusable silicone cover, the product’s cleaning and reuse instructions matter. If it needs washing between uses, they should say whether it must be completely dry before it goes back on. That may help distinguish a...
RE: Electric vs. manual toothbrushes for kids - what’s actually better?
I’ve noticed the same thing with my daughter - she’s had both electric and manual brushes, and honestly, the outcome seems to depend way more on her focus than the brush itself. With the electric, she tends to get distra...
RE: Snacking without guilt: why is it so hard to find treats that don't wreck your teeth?
Popcorn hulls are the worst - no matter how careful I am, one always finds a way to wedge itself somewhere impossible. I’ve had similar luck with dried mango, which I thought would be safer than chips... but nope, just t...
RE: How picky are you about cleaning around your braces or aligners?
That’s definitely been my experience, too. I’ve tried to optimize my technique but sometimes the water just wins. Honestly, I think a bit of splash is inevitable unless you’re hyper-focused every single time. The clean f...
RE: Tips for keeping baby teeth cavity-free?
Letting kids brush your teeth is a clever way to get them involved, but I’ve actually found that it can reinforce the idea that brushing is a game, which backfired for us. My daughter started thinking she could skip her ...
RE: Surprising Ways To Brighten Your Smile Without The Ouch Factor
I get the hesitation - oil pulling seems a bit out there. But honestly, I’ve read mixed evidence on its effectiveness. Personally, I’ve stuck with baking soda (sparingly) and never had issues. Maybe the horror stories ar...
RE: Keeping pain at bay after wisdom tooth extraction: worth the fuss?
That’s exactly what got me - my post-op sheet just said “use cold compresses in 20-minute intervals,” but didn’t clarify how many times per day or for how many days. I ended up alternating ice and rest for about 48 hours...
RE: Crowns after root canal: always, sometimes, or nah?
I totally get where you’re coming from. The insurance piece is just unpredictable. Like you mentioned, That’s been my experience too, especially with permanent molars in kids. I’ve seen a couple of families try to skip ...
RE: Brushing, flossing, and... seaweed? Saw this in the news
I get a little skeptical too when there’s a new “breakthrough” ingredient every year. I tried one of those charcoal toothpastes a while back - everyone was raving about it online. My teeth felt cleaner at first, but afte...
RE: How I pack and care for my retainer when traveling - step by step
Never thought I’d end up with a UV case, but here we are. I’m with you on it not being some miracle gadget, but there’s just something about the little blue light that feels reassuring when you’re stuck in an airport bat...
RE: Getting used to new dentures: slow and steady or all at once?
I get what you mean about the taste, but honestly, I’m not sure it’s just the adhesive. Some of it might be your brain adjusting to the new textures and materials in your mouth. When I first got mine, I noticed a weird m...
RE: Making brushing fun: What silly games keep your kids interested?
I’ve noticed the timers and songs actually do help my youngest stay on task, at least for now. It’s like the novelty factor buys us a couple minutes of real focus, which is more than we’d get otherwise. I was skeptical a...
RE: Which one actually gets your teeth cleaner: blasting with water or good ol’ string floss?
I get what you mean about the “squeaky clean” feeling - there’s something oddly satisfying about it, even if it’s a pain to actually do. I’ve tried both string and water flossers, and honestly, I always end up going back...
RE: How I deal with a busted tooth until I can see the dentist
I totally get the spreadsheet thing - I once tried tracking every snack just to avoid crunching down on the wrong side. Didn’t last long either. It’s wild how vague the aftercare instructions can be. I ended up eating wa...
RE: Snacks that make your dentist cringe (and ones they secretly love)
Popcorn definitely gets a bad rap, but I get it - those hulls are like dental booby traps. I had a filling pop out after biting down on an unpopped kernel and that was enough for me. Still, sometimes I cave and just chew...
