RE: Which floss brands actually last through the whole mouth?
Yeah, the price of Cocofloss is kind of wild, especially when you go through it fast. I’ve tried a bunch of different ones since getting braces - most of the “tape” style flosses just slipped right through my teeth and d...
RE: How long did your bridge replacement actually take?
The molds were my biggest fear too, but honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. I just focused on breathing through my nose and tried not to overthink it. The assistant distracted me with random small talk, which ...
RE: Mobile dental vans vs. community health centers for senior care - what's better?
Yeah, the “medieval torture seat” is too real - I had to laugh at that. My grandma tried a mobile van once and said it felt like getting her teeth cleaned in a moving closet. She much prefers the community health center ...
RE: Ice or gauze for a knocked-out tooth - what’s your go-to?
Yeah, cheek storage is a no-go for me too - way too easy to mess up if you sneeze or laugh. I tried the whole gauze thing once and it just turned into a soggy mess. As for milk, I’ve only heard regular milk works, not ch...
RE: What would you do if you needed a root canal but your budget was super tight?
Totally agree - it’s like getting a play-by-play on your own mouth. When I had braces, the dental school folks explained *everything*, right down to the “weird pressure” sensations. Honestly, I left knowing way more abou...
RE: Braces in your 30s: did you know teeth can move for life?
Honestly, I used to think the same thing - like maybe I’d dodged the whole shifting issue after a few years of wearing my retainer. For a while, nothing really changed. Then, out of nowhere, I noticed my bottom front tee...
RE: Is It Okay to Suck My Thumb at Bedtime?
I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I didn’t notice any issues until way later. I sucked my thumb for years and thought it was harmless, but my bite slowly shifted without any pain or obvious signs. By the time...
RE: Switching to floss picks totally changed my nightly routine
I get what you mean about the floss picks running out fast - sometimes I feel like I need two just to get through my braces. String floss is a pain with all the wires, though, so I kinda gave up on it. The water flosser ...
RE: How Has Getting Braces as an Adult Worked Out for You?
Yeah, totally get that. Some days I wake up and my teeth barely hurt, then suddenly I’ll bite into something soft and it’s like, nope, not today. I’ve found wax helps a ton for those random wire pokes. I tried a bunch of...
RE: Weirdest pain after getting braces tightened - normal or not?
That’s been my experience, too. The first few times my braces got tightened, one side always seemed to hurt more, but it usually faded after a couple days. I chalked it up to normal shifting. But I do think you’re right ...
RE: Best way to get the most out of fluoride: paste or rinse first?
I totally get that weird aftertaste thing - first time I skipped rinsing, it felt like I’d eaten toothpaste for dessert. But honestly, my orthodontist said it helps protect spots around brackets, so I just power through....
RE: Getting through jaw surgery: what actually helped me
Haha, I get that, but honestly, I didn’t mind the pureed food as much as I thought I would. Maybe I’m weird, but experimenting with soups and savory smoothies kept things interesting for me. I actually avoided food comme...
RE: The day my tongue cleaner became a secret weapon
Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the “scraped raw” feeling - been there, winced that. I started with a metal tongue cleaner because everyone said it was the gold standard, but honestly, after getting braces, my mo...
RE: Tooth knocked out at the playground - what now?
My orthodontist was pretty clear about water not being great for a knocked-out tooth - it can damage the cells on the root, apparently. Milk or even saliva is supposed to be better. I get why putting it back in sounds sc...
