RE: What Dental Emergencies Are You Seeing Most With Your Kids?
A knocked-out permanent tooth needs urgent dental care. Avoid handling the root, and contact a dentist or emergency dental service for guidance while arranging care. Baby teeth are handled differently from permanent teet...
RE: Feeling stuck between another root canal or just pulling the tooth?
That’s absolutely true - crowns can last a long time, but I’ve seen plenty come back with chips or even fractures, especially if someone grinds their teeth. Implants do seem to hold up better over the years, but the heal...
RE: GETTING THROUGH THE DENTIST CHAIR WITHOUT PANIC - ANYONE TRIED SEDATION?
I’ve actually tried noise-cancelling headphones in the chair - honestly, they help more than I expected, but they don’t block out everything. The drill’s pitch still sneaks through, just a bit muted. I tend to recommend ...
RE: Saw a story about sinus lifts getting more common - anyone else nervous?
I get where you’re coming from - those scans can really mess with your head, even if you know logically it’s probably nothing serious. I’ve had patients (and honestly, myself too) spiral a bit waiting for results. It’s l...
RE: Unexpected Everyday Things That Can Tint Your Teeth
I hear you on the anxiety around stains - it’s something I see a lot. I do agree that health is the bigger picture, but honestly, I sometimes wish people didn’t brush off stains so quickly. They can be harmless, sure, bu...
RE: Surprising Things I Learned About Getting a New Set of Teeth
I get where you’re coming from, but I do worry that the “teeth in a day” approach gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes. In my experience, it can work really well for certain patients - just not everyone. There’s always goin...
RE: The great dental quest: searching for planet-friendly floss
I’ve been down this rabbit hole too, and honestly, it’s a minefield. Silk floss works pretty well but yeah, not vegan and the price is… yikes. I tried one of those “biodegradable” corn fiber flosses and spent more time p...
RE: Would you ask for a second opinion before getting your wisdom teeth out?
That’s a really common scenario, and honestly, I get anxious every time I see a sideways (horizontal) impaction on an x-ray. Even if there’s no pain, that pressure against the next tooth can quietly cause damage - like c...
RE: Battle Of The Blends: Yogurt Vs. Applesauce After Tooth Extraction
Adding honey or cinnamon is tempting, but I always worry about anything that could irritate the extraction site or slow healing. Cinnamon, especially, can be a bit harsh on sensitive gums - at least in my experience with...
RE: Best way to get the most out of fluoride: paste or rinse first?
That chalky film is definitely one of those “necessary evils,” right? I get the urge to rinse - honestly, I have to remind myself every night not to. The science does back up leaving the fluoride on, but in reality, if i...
RE: Did you know medieval adults wore braces too (sort of)?
That’s a tough lesson, and I’ve seen it happen more than once. The appeal of mail-order aligners is real - no appointments, lower cost, everything shipped to your door... but like you said, the bite can be a lot trickier...
RE: Best way to get the most out of fluoride: paste or rinse first?
I hear you about leaving the toothpaste on - there’s definitely some evidence for that. Still, I do worry a bit about folks who might have sensitive mouths or issues with swallowing residue. Sometimes, patients tell me t...
RE: What would you do if your kid needed a filling but was terrified of the dentist?
It’s really encouraging to hear that gradual exposure worked for your son. I see a lot of families torn between wanting to avoid sedation and wanting to spare their kids anxiety. Honestly, I get anxious just thinking abo...
RE: Root canal wasn’t as scary as I thought - pain gone!
That’s a really common story - I’ve seen a lot of folks wait, hoping it’ll just go away, and honestly, I get it. It’s tough to know when pain is “serious enough.” Persistent or recurring pain is definitely a red flag tho...
RE: The day my tongue cleaner became a secret weapon
The “gunk” factor is definitely real - sometimes I’m surprised by just how much can build up overnight. And I totally get what you’re saying about the clean feeling. In my experience (and from what patients mention), tha...
