Had my regular dental appointment yesterday, and my dentist and I got chatting about how some people seem to get cavities no matter what, while others never seem to have any issues. I've had my fair share of fillings, unfortunately, so I asked if there's anything I'm missing besides brushing twice a day and flossing.
Anyway, she mentioned something kinda unexpected—apparently chewing sugar-free gum with xylitol after meals can actually help reduce cavities. I knew gum was supposed to freshen breath and all, but didn't realize it could actually help protect teeth. She explained that the xylitol stuff helps neutralize acids and reduces bacteria in your mouth, which are the main culprits behind tooth decay.
I mean, I guess it makes sense, but it just felt weird to hear a dentist recommending gum, haha. But hey, if it works, I'll chew gum all day long (well, maybe not ALL day...).
Curious if anyone else has heard about this or tried it out? Or maybe you got another trick up your sleeve that's been working for you—I'm up for trying anything at this point.

I've heard this from my dentist as well, and it does seem to have some solid research behind it. I've been using xylitol gum for a couple of years now, especially after lunch when brushing isn't convenient, and I've noticed fewer dental issues overall. Of course, it's not a miracle cure—diet and genetics still play a big role—but every little bit helps, right?
