Yeah, moderation definitely helps. I used to grind my teeth at night without realizing it—woke up with headaches and jaw stiffness all the time. My dentist recommended a night guard, and honestly, it made a huge difference. Teeth straightening is already tricky enough without extra jaw issues creeping in... Did your dentist suggest anything specific for managing TMJ symptoms besides cutting back on crunchy snacks?

Mine recommended some gentle jaw exercises and warm compresses before bed. Honestly, sounded too simple at first, but after a week or two, I noticed less stiffness in the mornings. Might be worth asking your dentist about it next time you're in... TMJ can be stubborn, but small things really do add up over time. Hang in there!

I totally get that jaw exercises and warm compresses help some people, but honestly, it didn't do much for me. My dentist actually suggested getting fitted for a custom night guard instead. I was super hesitant at first (the idea of sleeping with something in my mouth made me anxious...), but after a few weeks, it really eased my morning jaw pain. TMJ's tricky—what works wonders for one person might not do much for someone else. Just something to keep in mind if you find exercises aren't quite enough.

That's definitely true, but I'd caution against relying solely on night guards long-term. They can ease symptoms, sure, but addressing the underlying bite alignment through orthodontics or restorative treatments often provides more lasting relief. Just my experience...

Yeah, I hear you... orthodontics might be ideal, but honestly, the cost factor scares me off. I've been managing okay with a night guard for now—though I do worry if it's just a temporary fix. Glad you found something lasting, though.
