I hear you on the “less is more” thing, but I’ve actually had a slightly different outcome. My hygienist suggested a fluoride rinse at night, after brushing and spitting, but not rinsing with water. At first, I thought it’d be overkill, but my sensitivity really dropped after a few weeks. Maybe it’s just my enamel or who knows—everyone’s mouth is a bit different. Sometimes the extra step helps, sometimes it just irritates things more. Bit of a balancing act, honestly.
