That “teeth wearing armor” description is spot on—my son said it felt like he had a mouthful of LEGOs at first. Did you notice if your kid’s speech bounced back pretty quickly? I remember thinking he’d never stop lisping, but after a week or so, it was like nothing had changed. The wax was a lifesaver for us, but yeah, sometimes it just disappeared mid-meal. Do you think the soft foods made the biggest difference, or was it just time? Either way, it’s wild how resilient kids are.

That LEGO comment cracked me up—honestly, it’s exactly how I described it when I first got braces back in the day. Speech-wise, I remember my S’s were a disaster for maybe a week, then suddenly it just… sorted itself out. The wax is like Houdini, right? One minute it’s there, next it’s vanished (usually stuck to a sandwich). For me, soft foods helped a bit, but honestly, I think time did most of the heavy lifting. Kids bounce back way faster than us grown-ups.

That first week with braces really does feel like you’ve got a mouthful of spare parts, doesn’t it? I remember thinking I sounded like Daffy Duck every time I tried to say “success.” The wax was a mystery to me too—half the time I’d forget it was there until I bit into something and realized it had disappeared. I will say, I tried to tough it out with crunchy stuff and regretted it pretty quickly. Soup and mashed potatoes were my best friends for a while. Funny how you just adapt after a bit, though.

That wax is such a weird thing at first, right? I remember thinking it was kind of pointless until I woke up with my cheeks feeling like sandpaper. I totally get the Daffy Duck thing too—my S’s were hopeless for a week or two. Did anyone else find that cold drinks made their teeth ache more than hot ones? That was a surprise for me, and I started living on lukewarm tea.

I actually had the opposite reaction with the temperature sensitivity. For me, hot drinks were way worse—felt like my whole mouth was throbbing if I tried coffee the first few days. Cold stuff was more tolerable, though not exactly pleasant. I guess everyone’s nerves react a bit differently after getting the wires tightened. The wax, though... yeah, I underestimated how much I'd rely on that stuff, especially after the first adjustment.
