My kid got those random ulcers too, and it always seemed worse after eating anything with a lot of acid—like tomatoes or citrus. We started tracking what they ate and noticed a pattern, so maybe there’s something to it? Dental wax was a huge help for us as well.

Yeah, the acid thing is real. I used to just grab whatever snacks were around and never thought twice, but after a couple rounds of those nasty mouth ulcers, I started paying attention. Orange juice was brutal... like, instant regret every time. Ended up sticking to bland stuff for a while.

Dental wax is a lifesaver, but honestly, cold stuff helped me more than anything else. Ice water or even just holding an ice cube in my mouth would numb it enough to get through meals. Kinda weird but it worked for me way better than painkillers or the numbing gels everyone kept suggesting.

Also, not sure if this is just me being dramatic, but I swear spicy food made things 10x worse too. Learned that one the hard way with hot Cheetos—never again.

That’s interesting about the ice—never really thought of using it that way, but the numbing effect makes sense. I always wondered if anyone tried those silicone covers for brackets instead of wax? I found them a bit less messy, but maybe that’s just personal preference. Also, did anyone else notice certain toothpastes making ulcers worse? Some of the whitening ones seemed to sting like crazy for me.

Oh, I hear you on the toothpaste thing—those whitening ones always felt like pouring lemon juice on a paper cut for me. I tried those silicone covers too, and honestly, I liked them better than wax. Less gunky, didn’t get stuck in my mustache as much (don’t ask). Braces are a wild ride… sometimes it’s trial and error till you find what works. Hang in there—it does get easier.

Can’t say the silicone covers worked for my kid—she kept fiddling with them and they’d vanish by lunch. We actually went back to the old-school wax, even though it’s a bit messy. Maybe it’s just easier for little hands? Braces really are a choose-your-own-adventure...
