Honestly, I’m with you on the salt water rinses. I used to think they were just an old-school home remedy, but after a few brutal adjustment days, I finally gave in. Now it’s my first line of defense. It’s wild how something so basic can make such a difference, especially compared to those harsh mouthwashes that just make everything burn.

I totally relate to overbrushing too. For the longest time, I thought scrubbing harder meant cleaner teeth, but it just left my gums angry and sore. Switching to an electric toothbrush felt weird at first, but now I can’t imagine going back. My hygienist even commented on how much healthier my gums looked—definitely a relief after worrying I was making things worse.

I have to admit, chewing on pens was a habit for me too during stressful days. In hindsight, probably not the best idea... but hey, we all have our moments. Wax is a lifesaver for those wires that just won’t quit poking.

It really does feel like you’re constantly experimenting to see what works. Some weeks are easier than others, but finding little tricks that bring relief is such a win. Hang in there—it’s a weird ride, but you’re definitely not alone.

Salt water rinses are so underrated, right? I’m curious—have you tried using a warm compress on your jaw when things get really sore? Some folks swear by it, but I’m never sure if it’s actually helping or just a distraction.

Honestly, I’m not sure if the warm compress does much for me either. I’ve tried it a few nights when my jaw was killing me after an adjustment, and sometimes it feels nice in the moment, but I can’t tell if it’s actually reducing the pain or just making me focus on something else for a bit. Still, I guess anything that helps you relax is worth a shot.

Salt water rinses, though—those are my go-to. They just seem to calm everything down, especially when I get those random little cuts from the wires. Have you ever tried chewing on ice (carefully, of course) when your teeth are sore? I know dentists say it’s not the best idea, but for some reason, it’s the only thing that distracts me long enough to get through the worst of it. Wondering if that’s just me being weird or if others have found odd little tricks that work for them too...

- I’ve definitely tried the warm compress thing after a tough adjustment. For me, it seems to help with muscle tension more than the actual tooth pain. Maybe it’s just a placebo, but sometimes that’s enough to get through the evening.

- Salt water rinses are pretty much a staple. They’re simple, cheap, and honestly, nothing else works as well for those tiny wire pokes or when my gums get irritated.

- Chewing on ice—yeah, I’ve done it (even though I know it’s not dentist-approved). It numbs things up fast, but I always worry about cracking a bracket or something. Personally, I switched to sucking on ice chips instead of chewing. Same cold relief, less risk.

- Oddly enough, biting down gently on a clean washcloth helps me when my teeth feel extra sensitive. No idea why, but it takes the edge off just enough to get some sleep.

- One trick I picked up: using orthodontic wax even before things start hurting. Prevents those raw spots from forming in the first place.

Everyone’s got their weird little hacks... whatever gets you through, right?

I never thought of the washcloth thing, but now I’m tempted to try it next time my teeth are throbbing. I used to swear by cold apple slices—almost like ice chips but with a little flavor. Ever notice if certain foods are easier to eat or more soothing for you during those rough days?
