Weirdest thing I learned about cleaning clear aligners

Dang, I never even thought about using one of those jewelry cleaners. Kinda wild it sorta works for aligners too. Anyone ever try those denture cleaning tablets? I keep seeing people mention them but not sure if they actually help with the gross taste or just make things minty for like five minutes.

I’ve actually tried the denture tablets a couple times and honestly, I wasn’t super impressed. They do make things taste a bit fresher for a bit, but the weird aftertaste always comes back.

That’s pretty much been my experience too. I found using regular unscented hand soap (just a tiny drop, rinse really well) worked way better for getting rid of that funky taste long-term. The tablets are convenient, but not a miracle or anything.

- Totally get where you're coming from. Denture tablets seemed like a quick fix, but I noticed that lingering aftertaste too.
- Hand soap (unscented, just a tiny bit) actually did the trick for me as well - never thought I'd be using it for aligners, but here we are.
- The convenience of tablets is nice if you’re out or in a rush, but for day-to-day, rinsing and brushing with soap feels way cleaner.
- It’s weird how there’s not really a perfect product for this yet... you’d think with all the aligner users, someone would’ve nailed it by now.
- You’re definitely not alone trying random stuff to get rid of that gross taste.

Honestly, I’m surprised too - seems like a huge market gap. I tried the unscented hand soap route, but it always made me nervous about any residue left behind, even after a good rinse. Ended up switching to plain old baking soda and a soft brush. No weird taste, and it feels less harsh than soap. It’s not glamorous, but it works, and I don’t have to worry about mystery chemicals. Anyone else tried that?

Baking soda’s been my go-to for ages, actually. I tried those fancy aligner cleaning tablets, but they left a weird aftertaste and honestly, who has time to wait for them to dissolve every morning? Baking soda feels safer, and it doesn’t mess with the plastic. I do get what you mean about soap residue, though - that paranoia is real. Sometimes I wonder if we’re all just MacGyver-ing this because nobody’s made a product that actually ticks all the boxes.
