What would you do if you ran out of denture cleaner on a trip?

Imagine you're halfway through a weeklong vacation, and you realize you forgot to pack your usual denture tablets. Supermarket's closed, hotel doesn't have any, and all you've got is regular toothpaste and some mouthwash. Would you just use those, or try some weird DIY trick? Kinda makes me wonder if anyone's ever improvised with stuff like baking soda or salt water. Curious what others would do in a pinch—would you risk it, or just wait it out?

I’d be freaking out, honestly. I’m super paranoid about my dentures getting gross, so I’d probably just use mouthwash and a gentle brush, but I wouldn’t risk toothpaste—scratched mine once, took forever to fix. Baking soda sounds tempting, but I’d worry about abrasion. I’d just be counting the hours until I could get proper cleaner again, probably driving my travel buddy nuts with all my worrying...

I get the paranoia—been there! I once forgot my cleaner on a weekend trip and just had to improvise. Ended up using warm water, a soft brush, and a little mouthwash, like you mentioned. Didn’t feel perfect, but it was way better than nothing. I agree about skipping toothpaste; mine got these tiny scratches once and it drove me nuts for weeks. Baking soda seemed risky to me too, so I passed.

Honestly, I just tried to rinse after every meal and kept them out overnight to air out. My travel buddy thought I was being over the top, but hey, better safe than sorry. The first thing I did when we got back was hit the pharmacy for cleaner—never appreciated those fizzy tablets so much before.

It’s stressful in the moment, but your plan sounds solid. A couple of days won’t ruin them if you’re gentle.

That reminds me of a time I went camping and forgot my cleaner—had to make do with just a water bottle and a travel toothbrush. I was super careful, but honestly, I spent half the weekend paranoid about getting some weird taste or build-up. I’ve heard mixed things about using mouthwash, so I stuck with just water and a gentle brush, even though it felt like I was barely doing anything.

I definitely agree about toothpaste—tried it once out of desperation and regretted it when my dentures got that dull, scratched look. Never again. Rinsing after meals is underrated, honestly... it helps more than you’d think.

My partner thought I was being dramatic too, but hey, better to be overly cautious than end up with stains or odors you can’t get rid of. Those fizzy tablets really don’t get enough credit until you’re without them for a few days. I probably overthink this stuff, but it’s not like replacements are cheap!

Short term, gentle cleaning works fine, but yeah, nothing beats that first proper soak when you get home.

Honestly, I’ve been in the same boat—forgot my tablets on a road trip and had to improvise. I used a soft brush and mouthwash, just like you mentioned. Didn’t feel as fresh, but it worked for a few days. Rinsing after meals definitely helped with that “not quite clean” feeling. I’m always a bit wary of toothpaste too; even the non-abrasive ones seem risky long-term. That first soak back home really is the best, though… makes you appreciate the little things.
