I totally get where you're coming from. I used to scrub my teeth like I was trying to erase a stain or something, and honestly, it just left my gums feeling raw and my teeth kinda achy. The switch to a soft brush made me nervous at first—like, is this actually doing anything? But after a few weeks, my gums stopped bleeding every time I brushed, and that weird sensitivity around my brackets chilled out a bit.

I still have days where I worry if I'm cleaning enough, especially with all the orthodontic hardware in there. But my hygienist said gentle is better, and I’m starting to believe it. It’s weird how much of this is about unlearning what we thought was “right.” Glad to hear it’s working for you too. Makes me feel less paranoid about going easy on my teeth.

That really rings true for me. I spent decades thinking “harder is better” when it came to brushing—if my gums tingled, I figured I was doing a thorough job. Turns out, all I got was receding gums and a stern talking-to from my periodontist. Switching to a soft brush felt almost lazy at first, but my teeth actually stopped wiggling so much after a few months. Still feels odd sometimes, like I’m not doing enough, but the dentist keeps telling me less is more. Funny how long it takes to break old habits...

I totally get that feeling. My kid used to scrub like crazy, thinking it helped. Switching to a soft brush felt wrong at first, but her gums look so much healthier now. Breaking those old habits really does take a while.

Wait, really? I always thought scrubbing harder meant I was getting things cleaner. My dentist keeps saying to be gentle too, but it just feels like I'm missing spots when I don't go at it. Did you notice any weird buildup or anything after switching to a softer brush? I’m kinda nervous to change up my routine, honestly.

Honestly, I used to go at my teeth like I was scrubbing grout, so I totally get where you're coming from. But when I swapped to a soft brush, I was convinced I'd end up with a mouth full of fuzz or something. Weirdly enough, no extra buildup. If anything, my gums stopped looking so angry all the time. Still feels weird not to scrub like crazy, though—I have to keep reminding myself softer is better. Maybe it just takes a bit to get used to?
