Eating my way to a happier smile: anyone else notice a difference?
I started paying more attention to what I eat (less sugar, more leafy greens, and nuts, that kinda thing), and honestly, my gums have never felt better. Like, way less bleeding when I floss and just generally less sore. Didn’t expect it to make such a difference, but here we are. Has anyone else changed up their diet and actually seen results with their gums? Curious if it’s just me or if this is a real thing.

Not gonna lie, I’m a little skeptical about how much just changing food can do for gums. I mean, I get what you’re saying about less sugar and more greens - makes sense in theory - but for me, it didn’t seem to do much. I tried switching up my diet last year (mostly because my wallet was hurting and veggies are cheaper than takeout), but my gums still bled when I flossed. Maybe it’s just genetics or how well you brush?

Wish I could say the same. The only thing that really made a difference for me was finally buying one of those cheap electric toothbrushes on sale. Not fancy or anything, but somehow it got more gunk out than my old manual one ever did. My gums chilled out a bit after that, but honestly, diet alone wasn’t enough for me. Maybe I snack too much on crackers or something... who knows.
Honestly, I’m right there with you. Changing my diet barely moved the needle for me either, and I was super hopeful at first - like, “finally, something easy I can control.” Nope. My gums still bled every time I flossed, and I started getting paranoid about brushing too hard or missing spots. It’s so frustrating when you do all the “right” things and nothing seems to work.
I ended up caving and got an electric toothbrush too (just a basic one), and weirdly enough, that made more of a difference than all the kale or apples in the world. Maybe it’s just how those things vibrate? Or maybe my technique with a manual brush was just terrible all along... who knows.
I kinda think genetics plays a bigger role than people admit. My mom has always had bleeding gums no matter what, so maybe some of us just have to try extra hard. Anyway, you’re not alone in feeling skeptical - I still eat better for other reasons, but when it comes to gum health, I’m not convinced food is the magic fix.
- Same here, diet changes didn’t do much for my gums either.
- Switched to a cheap electric brush and immediately noticed less bleeding - guess tech wins this round.
- I’ve read some people swear by water flossers too, but honestly, nothing beat the electric for me.
- Genetics probably is a big part, like you said. My dad’s had gum issues forever, no matter what he eats.
- Still eat healthy for other reasons, but for gum health? Feels like good gadgets and technique matter more than kale.
