RE: Tooth pain strikes: do you go to the ER or wait for your dentist?
I’ve been down the teledentistry rabbit hole before, honestly out of sheer panic. I had a bracket pop off my braces late at night and was convinced my teeth would shift in a matter of hours (maybe dramatic, but anxiety d...
RE: Quick fixes that helped me survive dry socket pain
I totally get what you mean about the clove oil - it burned like crazy for me too, and I was actually scared I’d made things worse. Did anyone else get super paranoid about infection? I kept checking my breath and googli...
RE: How often do you actually swap out your retainer?
I totally relate to the anxiety over swapping retainers. Mine started getting those weird white spots and felt almost sharp along the edge - honestly, it freaked me out. I kept thinking, what if bacteria’s building up? E...
RE: Weirdest things that actually help with braces pain
WEIRDEST THINGS THAT ACTUALLY HELP WITH BRACES PAIN I get what you mean about the silicone covers sliding off when things are wet. I swear, the first few weeks after getting my braces, I was so paranoid about the covers...
RE: When the first fix doesn’t stick: a dental do-over adventure
Honestly, I think you did the right thing pushing for an earlier appointment. I get so anxious about stuff like that - sometimes the emotional stress is worse than the actual tooth problem. Kids pick up on it, too. No sh...
RE: Making recovery from jaw surgery less miserable - what actually helped?
I actually had the opposite experience with the recliner - after the first night, my jaw felt way stiffer than when I tried propping myself up in bed. Maybe it’s just me, but being upright all night made my whole face ac...
RE: Feeling normal again after a root canal - anyone else surprised?
Honestly, I totally get this. After my root canal, I was hyper-aware of every tiny twinge. Even now, months later, I still chew on the other side out of habit. The trust just isn’t there yet - like, logically I know it’s...
RE: That first week after wisdom teeth removal… did anyone else swear by ice packs?
I tried switching to heat after a couple days because the ice just made my jaw feel stiff and weirdly numb, but honestly, I couldn’t tell if it helped with bruising or not. Did anyone else feel like the heat made things ...
RE: Little things that helped me get through my braces timeline
My daughter went through the same thing - she’d get so upset when her teeth looked the same for weeks. I started taking pics every month, but honestly, even then it was hard to see changes sometimes and I’d start doubtin...
RE: Why does milk get all the credit for strong teeth?
I totally get what you mean about milk not being some magical shield for teeth. My parents were obsessed with the whole “milk equals strong teeth” thing too, but I still ended up in braces and had a couple of fillings by...
RE: How do you cope when facing a dental redo?
I get super anxious just thinking about having to redo anything dental, especially after spending so much on braces. The cost is always the first thing on my mind, honestly. I had to get a retainer replaced because it cr...
RE: How do you cope when facing a dental redo?
I get what you mean about trust, but honestly, I still can’t shake the anxiety about costs. It’s not just about being “comfortable” - I’ve had situations where I asked all the right questions and still got blindsided by ...
RE: The quest for the ultimate enamel shield: a story thread
I get what you mean about the “minty placebo.” I’ve been using one of those enamel-strengthening pastes for months (my ortho basically guilt-tripped me into it), and honestly, I’m not sure if it’s working or if I just wa...
RE: Eating my way to a happier smile: anyone else notice a difference?
Honestly, I’m right there with you. Changing my diet barely moved the needle for me either, and I was super hopeful at first - like, “finally, something easy I can control.” Nope. My gums still bled every time I flossed,...
