That’s exactly what my ortho told me too—those sticky dried fruits are basically the worst for braces. I used to snack on granola bars thinking they were “healthier,” but half the time they’re just sugar bombs. I agree, chocolate’s way easier to clean off, though I still miss biting into apples without worrying. It’s wild how much label reading I do now... never thought I’d be this invested in dental-friendly snacks.

I totally get the frustration with sticky stuff, but honestly, I’m still not convinced chocolate is that much better. I mean, it melts off easier, sure, but it’s still sugar sitting around your brackets. Maybe I’m just paranoid since I can’t really afford extra dental work if something goes wrong... I’ve started sticking to plain yogurt or cheese for snacks. Not exciting, but at least I don’t stress about surprise cavities or broken wires. Anyone else have to factor in cost when picking snacks? It’s kind of a bummer how much that influences my choices.

Man, I hear you on the snack stress. When I had braces, I thought I could get away with the occasional caramel... big mistake. Ended up at the dentist with a bent wire and a lighter wallet. Cheese became my best friend after that—boring, but safe. The cost of fixing stuff is no joke, especially when you’re already paying for the hardware in your mouth.

Caramel is the actual worst with braces, I swear. I tried to sneak some peanut brittle once—yeah, that was a disaster. Had to get a bracket re-glued and my orthodontist gave me the “told you so” look. Cheese and yogurt got old fast, but honestly, better than shelling out more cash for repairs. Sugar just isn’t worth the drama, in my opinion.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’d rather my kid just skip the sticky stuff altogether. Even “safe” snacks make me nervous—one wrong bite and we’re back at the orthodontist. We tried switching things up with softer fruits, oatmeal, and even smoothies. Not as fun as candy, but less stress for me worrying about broken brackets or cavities. Maybe I’m a little too careful, but it’s just not worth the hassle for us.
