Water’s cheaper and works about as well for me. Cheese sticks are my go-to too, but I miss apples. Every time I eat one, I feel like my gums get angry.

I hear you on the apple thing—biting into one feels like a gamble these days. I’ve tried cutting them up super small, but somehow my gums still throw a fit. And yeah, those dry mouth rinses are wild expensive for something that tastes like watered-down mouthwash. I’m with you—water and the occasional sugar-free mint do more for me than anything fancy.

Baking soda’s been my secret weapon too, especially when things taste off. It’s not glamorous, but it works and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Do you ever worry about it being too abrasive though? I read conflicting stuff online—some say it’s fine, others say it’ll wear your enamel down if you’re not careful. Hard to know what’s just internet noise.

Curious if anyone’s found a snack that doesn’t tick off their gums or spike their blood sugar. Cheese is great, but sometimes I want something crunchy that isn’t going to cause drama...

Yeah, I’m always paranoid about baking soda messing up my teeth, but my dentist said as long as you’re not scrubbing hard it’s fine... Still feels sketchy though. Has anyone tried those roasted chickpeas? Wondering if they’re actually crunchy without being murder on gums.

I get what you mean about the baking soda—it always seems a bit too abrasive, even if the dentist says it’s okay in moderation. I’ve tried roasted chickpeas a few times and honestly, texture-wise, they can be hit or miss. Some batches are super crunchy (like, “am I about to chip a tooth?” level) but others are much softer. Maybe it depends on how long they’re roasted? I just try to avoid the ones that feel like little rocks... My gums have been through enough already with diabetes.

That made me laugh because I’ve had the same worry—chickpeas can be like eating gravel if they’re roasted too long. I’m always so paranoid about biting into anything hard now. After a crown popped off last year (just from a “healthy” snack, go figure), I’ve been extra careful. Diabetes has really made my gums sensitive too, so even the stuff dentists say is “gentle” sometimes feels rough. I end up sticking with soft foods most days just for peace of mind.

I totally get the crunchy snack anxiety. It’s wild how something “healthy” can do more damage than junk food sometimes. Sensitive gums are no joke either—diabetes really does add a whole extra layer to dental stuff. I’ve seen folks do well with things like yogurt or scrambled eggs for protein, just to keep it gentle. Even so-called “soft” granola bars can be sneaky hard, so you’re not alone there.
