RE: Does frequent sipping of plain sparkling water increase enamel erosion?
The variation matters most when “sparkling water” includes flavors or added acids. Carbonation alone isn’t the whole story: citric acid, for example, can make a flavored drink more erosive than plain carbonated water. “U...
RE: What to do when you chip a tooth at home (been there…)
Honestly, a lot of clinics are way more flexible than people expect. Payment plans are pretty common now, especially for things like chipped teeth or unexpected repairs. It never hurts to ask - I've seen folks set up mon...
RE: How Do You Handle Your Love For Sour Snacks And Drinks?
You’re definitely on the right track with the rinse-and-wait routine. That urge to brush right away is tough to fight, but honestly, you’re helping your enamel recover by giving it time. I’ve seen a lot of people develop...
RE: Getting my words back: finally speaking clearly with new dentures
Sticky foods are a big one for denture wearers - caramel, taffy, even some breads can tug at the fit or get wedged underneath. Some people do adapt a bit over time, especially if their dentures fit well and they’ve pract...
RE: How do you get your kids to actually brush their teeth?
Timers are a solid choice - kids can’t really argue with a countdown. I’ve noticed flavors like watermelon or bubblegum do make a difference, even if it seems odd. “Whatever gets them brushing” is right. Just watch the f...
RE: Saw this story about a new “braces-friendly” school lunch menu - what do you pack for your kids?
Soup in a thermos is a solid idea, but I’ve seen a lot of kids struggle with it - especially if they have bands or wires that make slurping tricky. Sometimes even the smallest veggie chunks get stuck, and then they’re fr...
RE: Weird but true: salt water rinses are actually an old-school trick for easing denture gum pain.
Mixing salt and baking soda in warm water isn’t really overkill, but it’s not a magic bullet either. Salt water is decent for soothing irritated gums, but baking soda doesn’t do much for pain or swelling - just helps wit...
RE: How much did your dental implant + extraction actually cost?
That’s a pretty common story, unfortunately. A lot of people don’t realize just how many “maybes” there are with implants - until they’re in the chair and the dentist says, “We’ll need to do a bone graft.” The price jump...
RE: Best ways to soothe a teething baby (besides the usual stuff?)
Funny how much of this comes down to what the kid will actually tolerate. I’ve seen parents buy every “must-have” teether, only for their baby to ignore it and gnaw on a TV remote or their own toes instead. As long as yo...
RE: SHIFTING YOUR SMILE CENTER: WHO'S USING ELASTICS VS. SPRINGS?
That’s an interesting point about speech - I've seen that too. Springs can really mess with the way you talk, especially early on. Elastics get annoying, sure, but at least you can take them out for a bit of relief. Spri...
RE: Best toothpaste or tricks for sensitive gums starting to pull back?
Interesting take on the ultra-soft brushes - I’ve actually seen some folks end up missing plaque with those, especially if their technique isn’t great. Sometimes a soft, but not ultra-soft, brush with proper angle gets b...
RE: Switching to floss picks totally changed my nightly routine
You’re not alone - flossing can be tough when dexterity isn’t what it used to be. Floss picks aren’t perfect, but honestly, consistency matters most. If picks keep you on track and out of the dentist’s chair, that’s a wi...
RE: Would you freak out if your stitches took longer to dissolve?
It’s pretty common for dissolvable stitches to hang around longer than expected, especially in the mouth where healing can be a bit unpredictable. I get why you’d want to check in, but unless there’s pain, swelling, or w...
RE: Getting used to eating and talking with new teeth
It’s interesting, because I actually see some folks struggle a bit longer than just a week or two. Not everyone gets used to dentures at the same pace, especially if there are fit issues or sore spots. Some people adapt ...
RE: Making brushing fun for little ones - what actually works?
That gradual transition is spot on. With my niece, we phased out the songs and timers over a couple months. At first, she’d protest a bit, but sticking to the routine worked. In my experience, consistency matters more th...
