RE: Sugar overload and your teeth: a bittersweet truth
Yes, waiting after oranges or strawberries is sensible. Acid can temporarily soften the enamel surface, so brushing straight away may increase wear. Waiting around 30 to 60 minutes gives saliva time to help it recover; r...
RE: Saw this story about a new “braces-friendly” school lunch menu - what do you pack for your kids?
Is it weird that I’m still nervous about seeds and skins even after all these months? My kid’s super picky and will literally refuse to eat if there’s anything “weird” in their lunch. Do you just peel every tomato, or do...
RE: Calming nerves at the dentist: music or breathing exercises?
I actually tried earplugs with my daughter once and it didn’t go well - she got really freaked out not being able to hear me or the dentist clearly. I kind of worry about her feeling “shut off” from everything. Headphone...
RE: Tricks for feeling good about a “toothy” smile?
Weirdly enough, my kid’s dentist actually brought up the gum thing before I got a chance to (I was too nervous, honestly). They said the Botox isn’t permanent - maybe 3-4 months? Gum contouring lasts longer but sounded k...
RE: Saw a news piece about more adults getting braces - what’s it really like?
Did you ever worry about your teeth shifting if you forgot to put the aligners back in? My kid’s ortho keeps saying it’s super important, but honestly, I’m stressed about him not remembering after lunch at school. How st...
RE: Moving my jaw around after tightening: does it even help?
My kid just had their braces tightened last week, and I’ve been wondering about this exact thing. Is it actually better to keep the jaw moving a bit, or does that make it worse long term? I keep telling them to “take it ...
RE: Braces and sugar cravings: how do you keep your teeth happy?
Those water flossers honestly make me nervous - I keep worrying I’ll miss something important between the brackets. My kid’s ortho suggested them, but I still double-check with regular floss, even if it takes ages. Sugar...
RE: Switching to floss picks totally changed my nightly routine
That’s exactly what I’m worried about for my kid - he just got braces last month, and I’m honestly not sure what’s actually going to work for him long-term. We tried those floss picks with the little pointy end, but I co...
RE: Kicking the thumb habit - anyone else see their kid’s teeth straighten out?
I totally relate - teeth stuff just gets in your head, doesn’t it? I’m always second-guessing if we did enough to stop the thumb habit early. Did your dentist ever suggest any kind of retainer or just the “wait and see” ...
RE: Choosing between traditional bridges and implant-supported bridges - what's your pick?
That’s good to hear you adjusted pretty quickly. My kid’s dentist keeps saying implants are the “gold standard,” but I keep worrying about the healing time and whether it’ll feel weird long-term, especially for a young p...
RE: Getting through gum graft recovery (without losing my mind)
My kid just had a graft and I’m honestly still nervous about every little thing - especially food. I wouldn’t dare let him near pizza yet, even with a fork. Maybe I’m being overprotective, but I keep picturing the stitch...
RE: Kid Knocked Out a Tooth - What Should I Have Ready at Home?
I always worry I’ll mess it up in the panic. Is milk really safe for a knocked-out tooth? I’ve heard conflicting stuff - one dentist said yes, another said only saline. Do you just drop the tooth in a cup of milk and rus...
RE: Braces day jitters: did anyone else feel like a cyborg?
Wait, swallowing wax is actually fine? I’ve been stressing about my kid accidentally doing that. How do you know it’s harmless - did your orthodontist say so, or just personal experience? The cost thing is wild too...I s...
