RE: Finally sleeping without grinding teeth - anyone else had luck with a mouth guard?
Five minutes of meditation before bed may help reduce stress-related jaw tension, but I wouldn’t treat it as a substitute for a properly fitted guard. A dentist should check for cracked or worn teeth and signs of TMJ pro...
RE: WHY DOES RED WINE ALWAYS FIND THE LIGHT COUCH?
I get the appeal of slipcovers, but with a kid who’s constantly on the move (and, let’s be real, not always gentle), I found they just end up bunched in weird places or halfway off the couch. We switched to a performance...
RE: Tooth Knocked Out At Playground - What Would You Do?
I totally get what you mean - lugging milk around isn’t exactly practical. When my kiddo knocked out a tooth, we were nowhere near a fridge. We ended up using saline from my contact lens case, and the dentist said it was...
RE: How long does the post-adjustment ache actually last for you?
That’s exactly what my kid goes through - front teeth seem way more sensitive, especially after they put on new wires. The ortho said it’s because those teeth have less root support compared to molars, so they feel the p...
RE: Surprised by what’s lurking in “healthy” snacks?
Popcorn is basically public enemy number one in our house since my kid got braces - just not worth the risk. I used to think dried fruit was a safe, healthy snack too, but it’s crazy sticky and honestly a nightmare for b...
RE: Would you get that protective coating for your kid’s molars?
I hear you on the “Grand Canyon” grooves - my daughter’s back teeth look like a topographical map, and it’s just impossible to get every nook with a toothbrush. We went for sealants after our dentist practically begged u...
RE: Weirdest things that actually help with braces pain
I know what you mean about the brushes - my kid loses them faster than socks in the laundry. I’ve started stashing extras in the car and every bag I own, but somehow they still disappear. As for pain relief, we tried clo...
RE: Which Toothbrush Actually Makes a Difference?
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve seen a real difference since my kid started using one of those “fancy” brushes. The dentist kept saying “technique over tool,” but let’s be real - kids and perfect techn...
RE: How do you get your kids to actually brush their teeth?
We tried the rewards thing for a while - stickers, little prizes, you name it. Not gonna lie, it started out great, but after a couple of weeks, my daughter would just try to bargain for bigger “prizes” or flat-out refus...
RE: What if your implant keeps bugging you - how would you cope?
That “couple weeks” thing is always wishful thinking, in my experience. When my daughter had her implant, it was more like a month before she stopped complaining about the weird pressure and soreness. The dentist kept sa...
RE: ADJUSTING TO A MOUTH FULL OF NEW HARDWARE: A DAILY TALE
Flossing with braces is honestly the thing that finally broke me. I thought I was doing a decent job until the orthodontist called me out on “missed spots.” Turns out, regular floss is basically useless unless you’re a m...
RE: Crowns after root canal: always, sometimes, or nah?
I get where you’re coming from, but I actually lean the other way. My kid had a molar root canal and the dentist really pushed for a crown, said the tooth would be way more likely to crack without it. I was skeptical at ...
RE: Finally stopped my teeth from wiggling - here’s what worked for me
That splatter is real - my kiddo managed to soak the entire bathroom the first time she tried the water flosser. I’ll say, though, her gums were a little sore at first too. Dentist told us that’s normal while they toughe...
RE: Making the switch: how I use my water flosser (and where I still mess up)
I get the love for water flossers - my kid uses one with braces and it’s a lifesaver for all the gunk that gets stuck. But I actually still make them use regular floss too, especially for spots the water jet just seems t...
RE: Making the switch: how I use my water flosser (and where I still mess up)
It’s not just you - popcorn is the absolute worst for my kid’s braces. Those little husks get stuck everywhere, and the water flosser just sprays them around like confetti. I’ve tried changing the pressure and angling it...
