Root Canal Nerves: Did Anyone Else Actually Feel Relieved Afterward?

My kiddo just had their first root canal a couple months ago and honestly, I was probably more nervous than they were. The numbing took forever to kick in—felt like we were living at the dentist’s office for a bit there. But the relief after? Huge. No more middle-of-the-night tooth drama, which I’ll take any day. Bite was weird for a few days but nothing major. Didn’t get hit with extra fees, thank goodness.

I totally get what you mean about the relief. I had a root canal last year and honestly, the anticipation was way worse than the actual procedure. The numbing took ages for me too—I thought maybe it wasn’t working at first. But once it kicked in and everything was over, it was like a weight off my shoulders. No more random tooth pain waking me up at 2am. Bite felt off for a bit, but it settled down after a week or so. Glad you avoided surprise fees—those can be brutal.

Honestly, I kind of had the opposite experience. I expected to feel super relieved after mine, but my jaw was sore for days and I kept worrying something went wrong. The pain was gone, yeah, but I was hyper-aware of every weird twinge or click. Maybe I just overthink stuff, but it took me a while to actually relax. The anticipation was rough, though... I'll give you that.

My kid had a root canal earlier this year and I totally get where you’re coming from. She was so anxious beforehand, but afterward she kept asking if it was supposed to feel “weird” or “different.” The pain was gone, but she was super sensitive to every little thing for days—kept poking at her jaw, worrying it wasn’t healing right. I think it’s normal to be hyper-aware after something like that. Takes a while for the brain to catch up, you know?

That’s honestly kind of reassuring to read. I’ve got my first root canal coming up and the thought of everything feeling “off” afterward is stressing me out more than the actual procedure. Glad to know it’s not just me overthinking stuff. Guess it’s normal to be hyper-aware after something like that? Hoping I’ll notice the pain gone more than anything else.
